We are often asked how long the batteries last. The AAA batteries that we supply with the Kandle Light are top of the line Energizer alkaline batteries and, with continuous use, will last about 2 1/2 hours. We list them as "procession lights" because they serve best with intermittent use. If you turn them on, use them for, say - 20 minutes - turn them off, then use them again intermittently, they can last quite a while. Energizer tells us that they have a shelf life of 7 years and we have some Christmas choirs who have used them for the past 3 to 4 years without trouble. However, they do not have the staying power to be left on a stand in a window. We include caution notices warning users to be sure to turn them off by unscrewing the handle a full half-turn.
The center screw joint acts as the on/off switch as well as for changing batteries or bulb. A unique attribute of this switch is that if set barely off, a slight squeeze with one hand will turn it on as long as the squeeze is held. Some children's choirs have used this for syncopated renditions of Jingle Bells or Rudolph's flights with Santa.
